The Urban Farming Guys is a band of pioneers, farmers, and fans, running hard to put the most innovative, accessible, low tech and reproducible solutions for self sustaining community into the hands of everyday people from the inner-cities to the Nations. Beginning with energy, agriculture, and housing technologies, we are beating a path for communities and villages to thrive in any economy. And we are putting videos, diagrams, principals, parts lists and full technology into your hands in our open source knowledge base. Next we are putting them to the test in the hostile environment of the inner city of Kansas City as 20 families now have acquired homes and land within a 5 block radius of each other in Lykins Neighborhood as our first prototype of Sustainable Community. And Lastly to establish a sustainability school and training center. AND WE NEED YOUR TEAMWORK to pull this off. We have come a long way in our dedication but this vision is much bigger than its founders and it depends heavily on your support to make sustainable global impact. Help us equip the next generation to thrive. Our Strategy is 4 Parts:

  • Develop, Test and Release the needed Self Sustainable Technologies.
  • Build the Prototype Sustainable Community in the inner city of Kansas City, fit with economy proof jobs, food access and alternate energy.
  • Multiplication of Sustainable Communities in other cities and villages
  • Establish a Sustainability School and Training Center

Become a “True Ally” :

True Allies donate a set amount monthly for 24 months to fund the UFG prototyping Process. We are 100% reliant on crowd funding to push the cause forward . This is one important way to join the team, your donation directly funds progress for the cause. The Urban Farming Guys is in the process of applying for Non Profit status, and all donations should be tax deductible before year end 2012. If you would like to be absolutely sure that your donations are deductible for 2012 you can also donate to us through “Helping Hands” at hhmin.org and designate “The Urban Farming Guys” . Private Tour: A huge part of our mission is equipping others and giving tours . There has been an explosion of interest that grows exponentially every day. We are seeking every possible means to fund our time to be of service. In the mean time, with our 9-5 jobs and family needs we are really limited to our monthly open-house tours and we have also opened up Saturday afternoons after 1pm for pre-scheduled private tours as a free service to our “True Allies” see here: http://bit.ly/oDuOet. Inner City Tranformation

Change the neighborhood from the inside out.  Mentor kids in life skills and entrepreneurship. Come volunteer in our after school programs.  Our community transformation organization that is deeply responsible for the positive impact on Lykins Neighborhood is Rock Solid Urban Impact of which Urban Farming Guys are all the same faces. Urban Farming Guys is a product of RSUI’s vision and has been partnered since 2005 in its early stages, in the aim to build the prototype sustainable/tranformational community in the hostile environment of Lykins neighborhood.  If your are excited to invest in this part of making a change visit us here at RSUI.org

Adopt a Garden/Block- Create Jobs

Create Jobs, Reduce Crime, Bring Organic Food within walking distance, And Beautify the City. Land is incredibly cheap and abundant here in the inner-city of Kansas City, and people are looking for work. Lets teach people how to fish!!! Using traditional methods One Acre of land will produce on average 11 thousand pounds of food and would feed 6 people for a year. Using more developed methods such as vertical gardening, High-tunnels, raised bed gardening, and Aquaponics, be can blow that number out of the water and grow year round.

  • Adopt a garden $150 to adopt a 12×4 Raised bed in Lykins neighborhood for our community Garden to help educate families about urban agriculture
  • Adopt an inner-city Lot $7000 This will purchase the lot, clean it up (reducing crime), Build gardens from end to end, gain access to water, and make a big step to adding another job to the urban core. This lot will also have a sign with your name on it as the sponsor.
  • Adopt a Block- Create a Job Forever $50,000 This will expand our farming operations to create one new job forever. This can buy up to 12 acres of land, this could help us launch a large scale composting operation, this can build a 4000 sq ft Aquaponics greenhouse capable of 10-15k pounds of fish and 15k pounds of vegetables.
