Visit our Inner-city Farm

Volunteer Saturday Tour: A huge part of our mission is equipping others. We are seeking every possible means to fund our time to be of service. In the mean time, with our 9-5 jobs and family needs we are really limited to giving tours during our Saturday Volunteer Work Days. Every Saturday of the year we will meet at 1121 Myrtle at 9am for our volunteer workdays. We will serve a big lunch and then give a tour of our facilities. It is a lot of fun, come on out, bring some gloves and a water bottle. If you bring tools, please mark them with your name. It is a lot of fun and a great opportunity to meet and network with some really cool people, and work on some great projects. Email: Volunteer

Internship – one month project based stays

The UFG Internship is a one month or longer volunteer experience. We are looking for self motivated individuals who are eager to engage in the UFG mission to help establish sustainable communities in the most difficult places on earth. This is an intense and deeply creative experience that will challenge you entrepreneurially to create and establish sustainable processes, technologies, and create & launch thriving economic forces that will empower blighted inner-city communities. The Lykins Neighborhood is our living canvas. In this internship we will be learning how to facilitate change from the ground up. We will be creating opportunities from scratch, engaging the local community, and building a future and infrastructure for the next generation to thrive. We will be facing real problems head on rather than theory. Together we will be creating jobs, providing affordable access to healthy food, establishing alternate water and energy sources, mentoring urban youth, empowering the globe with knowledge, and building a strong sense of community among the native population. In this internship we will form a team that will work together and experience the challenges of community and grow in the much needed skills of interdependence. 6 month will be eligible to apply for Paid UFG Apprenticeship. By Year 3 if your are still here and so desire, we will send you out with resources and a dynamic team of individuals empowered to make change in any village/neighborhood on the planet as friends of UFG. Apprentices may also choose to be apart of our “Apprenticeship to Ownership” program in which we match their pay with land credits and resource credits , until we are able to deed them over a high production urban farm lot.  Applications and more info here

Adopt a Garden/Block- Create Jobs

Create Jobs, Reduce Crime, Bring Organic Food within walking distance, And Beautify the City. Land is incredibly cheap and abundant here in the inner-city of Kansas City, and people are looking for work. Lets teach people how to fish!!! Using traditional methods One Acre of land will produce on average 11 thousand pounds of food and would feed 6 people for a year. Using more developed methods such as vertical gardening, High-tunnels, raised bed gardening, and Aquaponics, be can blow that number out of the water and grow year round.

• Adopt a garden $150 to adopt a 12×4 Raised bed in Lykins neighborhood for our community Garden to help educate families about urban agriculture
• Adopt an inner-city Lot $7000 This will purchase the lot, clean it up (reducing crime), Build gardens from end to end, gain access to water, and make a big step to adding another job to the urban core. This lot will also have a sign with your name on it as the sponsor.
• Adopt a Block- Create a Job Forever $20,000 This will expand our farming operations to create one new job forever. This can buy up to 10 acres of land, this could help us launch a large scale composting operation, this can build a 4000 sq ft Aquaponics greenhouse capable of 10-15k pounds of fish and 25k pounds of vegetables.

We have finished our phase one tilapia farm and our prototype one biogas digester and next we are going hard after energy technologies including a DIY tar-less wood gasifier/generator and DIY wood burning Steam Generator. Along with a prototype 2 biodigester. And several other educational pieces for all to benefit.
