Community gardens are one of the quickest and easiest ways to begin to decrease crime and build bonds within the community. The benefits pile on from there. Our health begins with education and what better way to begin than getting your hands dirty. Everyone can relate to the common language of food, from the refugee to the old and young alike. We all find common ground in the garden. And since cash has been hard to come by in this disadvantage neighborhood and work we do we’ve had to find creative ways to build for pennies on the dollar, trading our worm castings for garden soil, salvaging wood, and leasing lots for the price of maintenance.
